Getting to Best Available Climate Science: Case studies connecting climate science and ecological modeling for land management decisions.

Andrea J. Ray
NOAA/ESRL/PSD Climate Analysis Branch

ABSTRACT

This presentation describes the findings from 4 studies funded by the USGS North Central Climate Science Center to improve how climate change science is used in studies on the ecological impacts of climate change. This project between NOAA & CIRES climate scientists and USGS ecologists has been a tangible, real-world demonstration of linkages between climate science, ecosystem science and resource management, to connect the appropriate climate information (historic & projections) to ecological modeling to address Dept of Interior management questions. The presentation will describe a set of key information that ecologists need from climate scientists that often isn't available, key things climate scientists want ecologists to know to thoughtfully use climate information, and some lessons learned for providing climate services to ecologists and land management agencies.
