Andy Hoell
Andy Hoell

October 7, 2015

Research meteorologist Andrew Hoell began working on PSD's Attribution and Predictability Assessments Team this past July. Andy researches the causal mechanisms of regional climate variability and focuses on the attribution of extreme events like floods and droughts on time scales of months to decades. A primary objective of his work is to better understand the sensitivity of regional climates to changing sea surface temperature patterns on seasonal to yearly time scales, associated with the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, and on decadal and longer time scales. Andy's current regional foci include the United States, Africa and Western Asia. He works closely with the Famine Early Warning Systems Network by providing climate outlooks, assessments and forecast interpretations over Africa, Western Asia and Central America and the Caribbean.

Andy was a research scientist at the University of California Santa Barbara prior to joining PSD and earned his PhD from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2012.
