Role Call of group members

  • Presentation: Outline of Modeling Paper on Arctic Ozone (Xin Yang) – Overview of outline of paper: 1) Intro, 2) Model descriptions (p-TOMCAT and UM-UKCA models, applied photochemical schemes – particularly emissions from sea ice and open ocean sourced SSA), 3) Results of data-model comparison (focus on seasonal variations, does Bromine play a role in spring ozone depletion events), overview of data-model comparison thus far: systematic biases between p-TOMCAT model and the data have been spotted, modeled spring minimum ozone values occur sooner than observed, modeled surface ozone is generally lower than observed – could be due to an underestimation of background ozone in the free troposphere in models, also assess is ozone depletion events are transported, need to select a “golden” case to compare model against observations (identify time period and station(s)), can each station partition whether or not ODE’s correspond to strong/calm winds/transports


  • Discussion: Outline of Modeling Paper on Arctic Ozone (ALL)


  • Define a “gold” case study: identify station(s) and year of interest
  • Overall paper will include model vs observation comparison of ALL IASOA stations
  • Figure out how to get O-Buoy data
  • What observations are needed to accurately examine difference between model and observation results
    • Involvement of PI’s from IASOA stations for assistance in generating observational data files
  • Importance of BrO data to support ODE analysis
  • Importance of analyzing whether or not ODE are transported or local events


Action Items:

  • Determine “gold” case study for paper (Yang, Helmig, Tarasick)
  • Figure out how to acquire O-Buoy data (Yang, Petropavlovskikh)
  • Determine what observations/met data is needed for model paper (ALL)
