Irina Petropavlovskikh

Dr. Irina Petropavlovskikh is a Senior Research Scientist at CIRES, University of Colorado and the science lead in the Ozone and Water Vapor (OZWV) division in the Global Monitoring Laboratory (GML), NOAA/ESRL. Her primary interests are in global monitoring of ozone variability in the Earth’s upper and lower atmosphere, with emphasis on the stratospheric ozone depletion/recovery, climate change, and regional air quality. She has developed the remote sensing techniques for the ground-based instruments such as the Dobson spectrophotometer, Brewer spectrometer and the NCAR CAFS instrument deployed on the aircraft platforms. Dr. Petropavlovskikh is using the balloon-borne records to monitor ozone changes in the free troposphere and low stratosphere, and to understand processes that impact the UTLS composition. Her interest in the air-quality monitoring, specifically in the baseline conditions, resulted in several important publications contributing to the IGAC TOAR activity. Her scientific interests are split between ozone data trend analysis, new product development for validation of the chemistry climate models and satellite-borne ozone data. Dr. Petropavlovskikh serves on the WMO GAW Ozone/UV Scientific Advisory group, International Ozone commission of IAMAS, and the scientific steering committee of the Network for Detection of the Atmospheric Composition Change (NDACC).
