Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) KWAJEX

NOAA AL Profiler Observations in Support of KWAJEX, Legan Island, Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands

KWAJEX is an international field program led by scientists at the University of Washington. The aim of KWAJEX is to provide ground validation for the TRMM satellite and test the physical basis of algorithms used in estimating precipitation from the TRMM satellite. KWAJEX takes on a special significance since Kwajalein is the only TRMM ground validation field site over the open ocean. The data base developed in KWAJEX will be suitable for validation of numerical simulation of mesoscale convective systems using cloud-resolving models and forward radiative transfer models to understand and improve the performance of the satellite and ground validation algorithms. The KWAJEX data archive will reside at the GSFC DAAC.
