TDC: Nauru 99
During Nauru99, NOAA Aeronomy Lab Profiler Observations were made from the NOAA Research Vessel R/V Ronald H. Brown and from the island of Nauru from June 23 - July 17, 1999.
Nauru99 was an international field program sponsored by the DOE/ARM and led by scientists at NOAA's Environmental Technology Laboratory (ETL). The aim of Nauru99 was to obtain an unambiguously pristine data set from a suite of instruments aboard a ship and to compare them with similar measurements from the island of Nauru in order to quantify the representativeness of atmospheric measurements taken on small islands with the atmosphere over the surrounding ocean. The Aeronomy Laboratory contribution for Nauru99 was to operate S-band profilers on Nauru and on the R/V Ronald H. Brown. These profilers provide information on the structure of precipitating clouds. This site contains archival images of the profiler data. The track of the R/V Ronald H. Brown can be seen by clicking here. The complete Nauru99 data archive will reside on the ETL Nauru99 web site.
