Winter Icing and Storms Project, 2004

A time-height (height in km above mean sea level) image of the GRIDS
icing hazard product from the WISP04 research project. Green indicates
safe conditions; yellow means that icing conditions are likely; the red
areas are regions in which there is a definitive in-flight icing hazard.
The black contour line is the cloud boundary as determined from the GRIDS
radar. And the freezing level from the RUC (Rapid Update Cycle model;
updated once per hour)
is shown by the horizontal blue line. These results were confirmed by
the UND (University of North Dakota) Citation research aircraft flying through the cloud.
