A good place to start learning about and looking for seasonal climate info is the NOAA Seasonal-to-Interannual (S-I) Climate Prediction Theme page. the NOAA Data page has links to many NOAA data sources, and
Official NOAA climate forecasts are released by the NWS Climate Prediction Center (CPC). The information on this page is fairly technical, but worth a look. In particular, you may wish to look at:
- CPC Temperature and Precipitation Forecasts
- Sea Surface Temperatures/El Niņo Forecasts
- Other
A few more places to get data:
- The NOAA Server, which provides a searchable interface to NOAA's data holdings. Users can download and plot data.
- GCIP data in particular can be found at
- NASA Earth System Science Data ; in particular, look at NASA SeaWIFS satellite data: this page gives access into the background, status and documentation for NASA's global ocean color monitoring mission called SeaWiFS; and the Global Change master Directory (which also includes a lot of NOAA data)
- Data from the NOAA El Nino Observing System in the Pacific, both atmospheric and ocean data
- EPIC systemprovides data archival, retreival, display and analysis procedures for oceanographic time series and hydrographic data. Users select data by specifying data type, latitude, longitude and time range or other identifying characteristics. There is a complete suite of routines for graphical display and data analysis.
- >R/V Kaimimoana real time site: this is a favorite of mine, because it is direct from a research ship and details what they're doing every week. This week there is a photo of the ship leaving Pearl Harbor.
- Soil Moisture maintained by Jim Washburne; includes some teacher info
- The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center's Science for Society tour has interesting links on damages from nautral hazards and other phenomena.
- US Fish and Wildlife Service Data
- For climate change data, see the USGCRP Global Change Data and Information System (GCDIS).
