- Through the 31st of August, a total of six tropical storms and three
hurricanes have formed over the North Atlantic in 2010. This has happened
only about once every four years since 1948.
- During the end of August, both Hurricanes Danielle and Earl
reached Category 4 strength one right after the other. Similarly strong
back-to-back hurricanes have only been observed eleven times between
1948 and 2009, in nine separate seasons.
- As of September 1, the 2010 hurricane season is back on track to
show higher than normal activity levels after the lull from early July
through mid-August.
