Brief Cloud Synopsis

APRIL 21, 1998:

Deepening mid/upper-level, primarily ice cloud system. Cloud base gradually decreases from 5 km to 1 km AGL over the day. Tops are 6-7 km AGL from 0:00-15:00 and then slowly lower to 4 km by 24:00. Lidar and radiometer suggest a mostly ice cloud with occasional small amounts of liquid (less than 0.02 mm). Broad non-distinct inversion which peaks around 900 mb. Generally dry sub-cloud layer. Sounding also suggests an ice cloud (well below water saturation).
