Hilo is on the eastern coast of the Big Island of Hawaii
Balloons carrying NOAA frost point hygrometers have been launched occasionally at Hilo since 1991, but regular monthly data flights began in December, 2010.
The National Weather Service facility at the Hilo International Airport
Our balloons and FPHs are launched at the National Weather Service facility at the Hilo International Airport on the Big Island of Hawaii. Thanks to the staff of the NOAA Mauna Loa observatory for performing the flights.
