VIRTUAL TOUR OF AEROSOL SYSTEM

The Nephelometers

Nephelometers measure light scattering by aerosol particles. The TSI 3563 nephelometer measures total scattering (between 7 and 170 degrees) and backscattering (between 7 and 90 degrees) at 3 wavelengths: 450 nm (blue), 550 nm (green) and 700 nm (red). There are two nephelometers in the CMDL aerosol system. One nephelometer is kept at a constant low RH (~40-50%) while a humidifying system allows the other nephelometer to measure scattering at RH between 20 and 90% RH.
