The Chemical sampling system consists of 8 filter packs and a valve switching system. A computer controller switches a valve every 24 hours so that a different filter pack is used to collect aerosol. Every week the filters are removed from the carousel in a clean box, packaged and sent to PMEL for analysis. (The 8th filter serves as a field blank.)
