Valid IDs: Personal Identification For Entry to NOAA Facilities

The Real ID Act of 2005 (P.L. 109-13) legislation established new compliance standards for State issued driver's licenses and identification cards. Upon full implementation of this Act, non-compliant State issued driver's and identification cards may not be used to enter to NOAA facilities requiring presentation of identification cards.

The following forms of identification will be acceptable for entry to NOAA facilities requiring presentation of identification cards:

  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Passport Card
  • U.S. Department of Defense CAC
  • U.S. Federal agency HSPD-12 compliant ID cards
  • U.S. Veterans ID
  • U.S. Military Dependent's ID Card
  • U.S. Trusted Traveler Card – Global Entry, SENTRI, or NEXUS
  • U.S. Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • State issued Real ID Compliant Driver's Licenses and Identification Cards

Individuals may not use driver's licenses and identification cards issued by the following states and territories to enter NOAA facilities requiring presentation of identification cards (NON-COMPLIANT):

  • Alaska
  • American Samoa
  • Arizona
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota *
  • Montana
  • New York *
  • Oklahoma
  • Washington *

* Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDL's) from Minnesota, New York, and Washington State are compliant with the Real ID Act and may continue to be accepted at NOAA facilities requiring presentation of identification cards.
