Research
My research falls within the disciplines of atmospheric aerosols, cloud physics, boundary-layer meteorology, and climate change. My overarching scientific goal is to achieve a better understanding of the chemical, physical and dynamical mechanisms governing aerosol-cloud-climate interactions and to reduce uncertainties in the representation of aerosol effects and shallow clouds in climate models in order to assess global climate change.
My research experience thus far entails observational studies of aerosol effects on shallow clouds using airborne in-situ and remote sensing measurements and modeling studies of aerosol-cloud-precipitation-radiation interactions and dynamical feedbacks using large-eddy simulations (LES). I am also interested in numerical model development.
Current Topics
- Modeling and understanding mesoscale cellular structures and drizzle in marine stratocumulus clouds;
- Advancing our understanding of the formation and evolution of open- and closed-cell patterns in stratocumulus.
