>NOAA Participates in 4th Meeting of the IPCC Lead Authors of the 2007 assessment

10 July 2006

CSD Scientists were among the participants at the Lead Authors review meeting held the week of June 26 in Bergen, Norway. Also participating from NOAA were scientists from GFDL and NESDIS/NCDC.

Background: The meeting was the fourth and final meeting in the series of Lead Author meetings that have been held in association with the preparation of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, due out in early 2007. The chapter teams reviewed the approximately 10,000 comments received from experts and governments on the report, and discussed the revision of the chapters that will occur in light of the comments. NOAA scientists are serving as Cochair of the IPPC's science working group (Working Group I), as lead authors, contributing authors, and reviewers of the Fourth Assessment Report.

Significance: This effort contributes to NOAA's mission to provide sound scientific information on the state-of-understanding regarding climate change to NOAA's information customers in government, industry, and the public. The effort involves hundreds of worldwide scientists from government, academia, and the private sector.
