The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Committee on Environmental, Natural Resources, and Sustainability (CENRS) is charged with improving coordination among Federal agencies involved in environmental, natural resource and sustainability research and development, establishing a strong information-transfer link between science and policy, and developing a Federal environmental, natural resource, and sustainability research and development strategy that responds to national and international issues. The subcommittees under the CENRS include:
- Air Quality Research
- Disaster Reduction
- Ecological Systems
- Global Change Research / Climate Change Science
- Toxics and Risk
The Air Quality Research Subcommittee has articulated two major goals in its Strategic Plan:
- to enhance the effectiveness and productivity of U.S. air quality research, and
- to improve information exchange between research and policy on air quality issues, including the scientific knowledge base for air quality standards and assessing compliance
NOAA and EPA will serve as the Co-Chairs this subcommittee, which includes representatives* from the following departments and agencies:
